STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

Despite the work that many concerned entities are performing, the Nation’s drug epidemic and high overdose rate continues to worsen. One prevailing theme is the fact that the epidemic is now driven by illicit fentanyl, fentanyl analogs, methamphetamine, and cocaine, often in combination or in adulterated forms. Additionally, people with substance use disorders are at particular risk for developing or already experiencing one or more psychiatric disorders, as well as chronic medical diseases, which further exacerbates their overall psychosocial functioning.​
