Katharine Elliott relocated from Alexandria to Richmond, Virginia, where she attended Virginia Commonwealth University and received her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology in 2014. Katharine has experience working with individuals, children and families overcoming challenges with severe mental illnesses (SMI), co-occurring diagnoses or substance abuse. Katharine was involved in several internships prior to becoming employed at River City CCS, including but not limited to: FRIENDS Association for Children as a Health Education Coordinator for school-aged students, providing youth enrichment programs including academic studies, United Methodist Family Services (UMFS) as a Teacher Assistant at the Charter House School to students with Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder and a Success Coach for Cosby High School’s mentoring program to sophomores interested in pursuing their degrees in Health Sciences.​

In 2013, Katharine joined as an intern at River City, where she was offered extensive learning opportunities, skills training and professional development to further enhance her interest, where she started her position as a Mental Health Counselor. Since 2017, Katharine has served as a Program Director for River City’s Community Based Program. Throughout her years as a Mental Health Counselor and a myriad of interventions acquired, Katharine utilizes a strengths-based approach and motivational interviewing to help de escalate the severity/intensity of clients’ triggers, psychiatric decompensation and decreasing at-risk of out-of-home placement, hospitalization or incarceration associated with mental illness and/or substance use. In 2020, Katharine became a Substance Use Case Management Coordinator (SUCM) conjunctively where she monitors Case Managers/caseload of clients with history and current addiction, and helps to assist with navigation of basic needs and resources. Currently, Katharine is pursuing her Masters of Social Work degree at George Mason University. ​

During her free time, Katharine enjoys traveling domestically and internationally, attending car shows, movie nights, spontaneous trips to Target and spending quality time with her son and husband.
