Juanita Leonard is a Resident in Counseling, currently pursuing licensure to become an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). She is also a CSAC (Certified Substance Abuse Counselor) supervisee. Juanita graduated from Old Dominion University’s undergraduate program with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2016. She then went on to earn her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University CACREP-accredited program in 2023. ​

Prior to joining the River City team, Juanita spent 3 years working with adults who were severely mentally ill, chronically homeless, and suffered from substance use disorders in a crisis residential setting at Richmond Behavioral Health. As a part of her internship, she assisted with intakes and assessments for Richmond Behavioral Health for same-day treatment services. Juanita has also worked with various agencies within the Richmond area providing mental health skill building services to promote wellness and assist clients with enhancing daily living skills. ​

Juanita also works as an outpatient clinician with River City Integrative Counseling, using person-centered, DBT, trauma-focused therapy to support and assist individuals to reach their personal goals. Through this field of work, she strives to display compassion and passion to help serve individuals in the community who are seeking transparency and support to concerns negatively impacting their daily lives. ​

In her free time, Juanita enjoys spending time with family and being outside.
