Jimmy Christmas has been a professional Social Worker, since 1994, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) since 2002 and currently holds the following professional designations: Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Certified Clinical Supervisor, Certified ASAM Assessor, and Mindful Yoga Therapist (MYT). His current public service commitments include the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR), Virginia Cannabis Public Health Advisory Council, VCU Rams In Recovery, Virginia Association of Community-Based Providers, and the Ujima Legacy Fund.

Since 2009, Jimmy has been the Founder/CEO of "River City," a behavioral health organization that provides a range of comprehensive DBHDS licensed programs and services such as Community Stabilization, Intensive In-Home, Mental Health Skill Services, Opioid Treatment Programs, ASAM Levels 1.0 Outpatient Services, 2.1 Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), 2.5 Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), 3.1 Clinically Managed Low Intensity Residential Services, Substance Use Case Management, and Community-Based Peer Recovery Support Services. He is recognized for leading business expansion through new service and location development, infrastructure development, intentional strategic partnerships, new or repurposed behavioral health services, innovative pricing, and financing models. With a "trauma-informed and person-centered" philosophy that is aligned with DBHDS, DMAS, SAMSHA, ASAM, and JCAHO, Jimmy’s goal is to create a true Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC) that provides a wide range of Addiction Recovery Management Services (ARMS) to assist individuals affected by SUDs and psychiatric disorders to be able to access services more readily when they need them, so they may achieve abstinence or management for improved health, wellness, and quality of life. Jimmy is passionate about River City’s "ground zero" practices to battle the opioid epidemic with the philosophy to, "reduce overdose and overdose deaths."

Jimmy has been a person in long term Recovery since August 20, 1992, a runner, martial artist, and golfer for over 25 years; and is a big fan of Stephen King and Ann Rice novels. He loves traveling, music, food, and most all, Jimmy loves spending time with his family and friends. As a life practitioner, Jimmy utilizes the many stories that he has heard from a diverse range of humans and non-humans ,and integrates them with his own, to create healing experiences for others, himself, and the world.
